Let’s take a lesson today from nature and Bee the pollinator to the pollinated, through our actions of kindness and understanding.
Download the video and use it as an engagement with your students to
- Elicit prior knowledge on insects and pollination
- Notice Nature
- Mimic nature by pollinating (being kind) to the pollinated (classmates)
Start the year with a BB with the action heading, “Bee the pollinator to the pollinated, through your actions of kindness and understanding.” At the end of the day have the students add a flower that states how they were a pollinator, spread kindness and understanding, to the pollinated, the class. For younger students you can have a class discussion and write on a flower for the students. Students can also draw a picture and you can write a short phrase for them.
To promote responsible behaviors in the classroom, I would have the students share or write what they did, and not what they noticed about others. You could possibly give each student a flower and have them add to the petal each time they share kindness and understanding to their classmates.
Books to read to students to share knowledge on Bees.
- The Bee Book, Charlotte Milner
- UnBEElievables, Douglas Florian (please check out the video of him reading his book.)
- Flight of the Honey Bee, Raymond Huber

A thought to puzzle over…
How can you embed the actions in Nature into your classroom management plans?
